Meet Becki and Chris from Everyday Balloons

How did you get started making your products?

We met in college while both pursuing BFAs in printmaking. A few years after finishing college and focusing on our own work, we started a collaboration and everyday balloons was born – a combination of both our drawing styles while honing our printing skills.

How long have you been making your products?

6 years (3 as a hobby, 2 seriously, and 1 full time)

Do you have any new products debuting this Spring?

Yes! We have several new prints and a bunch of new greeting cards.

Tell us about your process.

Everything starts with a pencil sketch, then we revise and create an ink drawing. The drawing is scanned and resized, then we create all the layers for printing by cutting rubylith and using paint markers. The screens are exposed, then we mix all the inks, and hand print each layer, one color at a time.

Do you have any long term goals for your business?

We’d love to add an artist residency/retreat to our business. So that people can come and use our print shop, learn about printing techniques, and have a little getaway on our quiet mini-farm.

What makes your product different than other similar projects?

We create the layers for printing by hand, the old-school way. Lots of folks do that part digitally but we prefer the hands-on method.

What do you watch or listen to while you are working?

Podcasts mostly, our favorites are Reply All, Tell ’em Steve Dave, Hidden Brain, and Criminal.

4 cats (1 house cat and 3 farm cats) and 16 chickens!
